Children starting Reception
Children start school during the academic year in which they become 5 years old. Danegrove has one intake of 90 children for the reception classes each year. Each class is a standard size of 30 pupils.
We hold two open days for prospective parents (reception children), one is in October and the second is in early December. Our open days take place on the Ridgeway Avenue site, but parents are also welcome to tour the Windsor Drive site.
2024 Open Day Dates:
-
Thursday 17th October 2024 9:30am - Ridgeway Avenue site
-
Thursday 5th December 2024 1:30pm - Ridgeway Avenue site
Places at Danegrove are allocated according to the Local Education Authority’s criteria.
These are, in order of priority:
- Children who have a statement of special educational needs and for whom Danegrove is a named school.
- Looked after children’ and children who were adopted (or subject to child arrangements orders or special guardianship orders) immediately following having been ‘looked after’, as well as those children who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
- Children who the Director of School Access & Skills accepts as having an exceptional medical, social or other need which the school is particularly able to meet.
- Children who, at the time of admission, have a sibling living at the same address who already attends the school, or the linked school in the case of separate infant and junior schools.
- Children of teaching staff of the school where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made and will be in employment as a teacher at the school when the child starts school.
- Children living within the individual school’s defined area, with priority given to those who live closest to the school when measuring distance in a straight line.
- Children living outside the individual school’s defined area, with priority given to those who live closest to the school when measuring distance in a straight line.
If the school is oversubscribed then children will be put on a waiting list and parents will be contacted by the local authority should a vacancy arise.
