Wellbeing Curriculum
Supporting the development of positive mental health, wellbeing and healthy lifestyles is at the heart of Danegrove Primary School. We aim to increase awareness of mental health and wellbeing, embedding a culture of resilience, acceptance and empathy. The two wellbeing rooms; The Rainforest Retreat and Water Wonderland, are calming environments for our community. The rooms enable children to reflect and express their emotions in a safe environment. Our wellbeing curriculum helps children to understand their feelings, promote self-esteem, and helps children to socially form and maintain relationships and to encourage confidence.
All children in school have access to this facility either by way of 1:1 support, small group work or whole class sessions.
- 1:1 support allows children to share their feelings confidentially with a trusted adult and to receive guidance on resolving their difficulties.
- Small group work encourages children to share their feelings with others of similar needs, whilst being supported using relevant emotional literacy programmes, all of which help to develop children’s confidence, self-esteem and personal growth:
- Gilly the Giraffe – supports positive approaches and increased self-esteem
- Presley the Pug - helps children to regulate emotions and to find calm
- Think Good, Feel Good – supports confidence building and increased self-esteem
- Lego Therapy – supports children with social and communication difficulties, particularly children on the autistic spectrum
- Fun Friends and Friends for Life – supports social and emotional difficulties around feelings and relationships
- A Volcano in My Tummy – encourages children to be aware of their own behaviour and how to manage their anger and frustration
- The Feelings Art Book – this programme allows children to express themselves through drawings and art work.
- Transition to Secondary School Support – this encourages personal development for a smooth transition into a new environment
- Whole class sessions promote positive mental health through learning about Mindfulness, Meditation, Peer-on-Peer Massage, Tai-chi, Yoga and Relaxation. The group sessions include Circle Time which is linked to PSHE, safeguarding and the school values and may cover themes such as E-safety, racism, healthy body/healthy mind, sexism, anti-bullying etc.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child's well-being please contact Mrs Ghosseiri (Wellbeing Lead/Assistant Head teacher) or Mrs Stevens (Learning Mentor).
