Art & Design
At Danegrove we believe that Art is a fantastic way for all children of all ages to express themselves, be creative and to explore. Art and design stimulates creativity and imagination. At Danegrove we value the importance of the arts provision to nurture the whole child. It provides visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a way of understanding and responding to the world it enables children to communicate what they see, feel and think, through the use of colour, texture, line, form, pattern and different materials and processes. Children learn to make informed judgements and aesthetic and practical decisions. We believe it allows each individual to use their imagination to inspire their creativity, take risks and extend their cultural understanding.
At Danegrove the children are introduced to the work of a wide variety of artists, craftspeople and designers and experience a range of practical activities using different media to explore colour, texture and technique in both 2D and 3D forms. Through learning about the roles and functions of art, they can explore the impact it has had on contemporary life and on different periods and cultures. The appreciation and enjoyment of the visual arts enrich all our lives. Pupils reflect on how these have shaped the history, culture, creativity and wealth of our nation and are appropriately challenged to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to experiment and create their own arts, crafts and designs.
Art and Design at Danegrove is based on providing enjoyable, memorable learning experiences and on developing an individual’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding of the world in which they live. Here at Danegrove exploring the arts is built into all areas of the curriculum wherever possible. As a school we enjoy celebrating the art that is created through displays, assemblies and sharing work with pupils and parents.
